Cancer Information and Support Services in Port Talbot

A diagnosis of cancer can be devastating for the individual concerned and their friends and family.

A number of local and national organisations exist to provide information and support.

Y Rhosyn Cancer Support Day Unit

Y Rhosyn is a Community Nurse led facility based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.  The philosophy of care is that all patients are treated as individuals, given holistic support in order to enhance health and maintain an optimum quality of life.

The team comprises a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, district nurse, staff nurses, health care support worker, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and office co-ordinator. Volunteers are also an essential part of the unit and assist patients during the day.

Patients are able to take advantage of a number of complimentary therapies including aromatherapy, reflexology which are provided by qualified practitioners.

Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS)

CISS is a charitable organisation dedicated to helping people live and cope with cancer and are able to offer patients and their families information and support both at the unit and in their own homes.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support is a national charity providing information and support to patients with cancer and their family.  Macmillan nurses work in hospitals and the community.  As specialists they do not routinely undertake nursing care but are there to assess complex needs, give advice to other healthcare professionals and support people with cancer to understand their treatment options.
